IMIS support action aims at enhancing the implementation of the RIS-NAC action plans by helping regions converting them into sustainable regional policies. It is a project that provides to nine RIS-NAC regions smooth access to good practice in the field of innovation policy related to support schemes and strategies and facilitates the mobilisation of the best European expertise for the design of selected regional innovation measures. IMIS matches the demand for expertise support by the RIS-NAC regions with the best experiences available in Europe.

IMIS project is offering its services to the nine RIS-NAC regions: Silesia (Poland), Opole / Bohemia (Poland / Czech Republic), Prague / Pilsen (Czech Republic), South Transdanubia, Central Transdanubia (including Central Hungary, South Great Plain (Hungary), Tartu (Estonia), West Romania (Romania), Nitra – Bratislava (Slovakia).

The main objectives of IMIS are:
To identify the local contact points for the implementation of the regional innovation measures
To identify the maturity level of the measures and expertise needed in order to propose the relevant expert work
To map the regional needs according to the proposed actions, maturity level political involvement and commitment, in collaboration with those people developed the RIS-NACs Action Plans.
To elaborate and create a continuously updated database of expertise and experts that could promote appropriate counselling schemes that helping towards the implementation of the actions.
To cover significant expert areas that show increased density of counselling needs.
To support the counseling services with enriched activities, outside the core thematic expertise. Such activities are awareness raising, visiting schemes organization, project planning and organization (GOPP).
To create a continuous momentum of information exchange and experts support and availability through online web support.
To continuously evaluate and rate the expert work and the functionality and use of the counselling services through discussions with the regional contacts responsible.

Work performed, results achieved so far

All contacts with key political actors and regional representatives have been established. All partners have provided internally regional analyses of the regions and participated in contact visits with all IMIS RIS-NAC regions, to which they have provided practical input in the definition and planning of counselling schemes.

For the mapping of the regional excellence the reports have been prepared and were uploaded in the project’s website in order to be available for the experts and the regions.

The experts database is available. It is accessible on the “ Experts Database” folder. Experts are regularly entered by the IMIS partners according to the experts they proposed in the IMIS contract.

Together with Innovation Coach 9 Memorandum Of Understanding have been signed already with the RIS NAC regions of Tartu-South Estonia (ESTONIA), South Great Plain, Central Hungary, Central Transdanubia, South Transdanubia (HUNGARY), Nitra (SLOVAKIA), Silesia, Opole (POLAND) and West Romania (ROMANIA) and 7 counselling schemes have been completed so far (the period December 2005 – May 2006). Four of them were implemented at the region of Silesia two at Opole and one in the region of West Romania . 14 counseling schemes have been agreed between IMIS and the regional representatives from Tartu , West Romania , South Transdanubia , South Great Plain , Silesia , Opole , Central Transdanubia and are either under implementation either to be implemented. 4 Counseling schemes are under finalization with the regions of Nitra and Central Hungary

IMIS evaluation and assessment tools have been designed with the contribution of all partners. Two questionnaires (one for the region and one for the expert) concerning quality control of the counselling schemes have been produced together with the definition of success indicators as part of the IMIS assessment manual.

IMIS is a Specific Support Action financed by the European Commission, DG Enterprise and Industry (D2). The duration of the project is two years and will last until the end of May 2007. IMIS project will be implemented by four partnering companies and a network of experts on innovation all over Europe .
